Take A Chance pre-order

The Take A Chance graphic novel is up at Amazon for pre-order. The GN will include the original 5 issue story arc, plus the Free Comic Book Day issue, and audition art from various artists I’ve talked with over the past few years, as well as at least one essay about the road to publication. I’m interested to hear what other people might like to see as extras, so consider this your sound-off board!

For those interested in the individual issues, the Dabel Brothers Store has issues 1-3 available.

  1. I’d be interested in your thoughts on Chance herself. How she came about. What she means to you. The character design process. Whatever else comes to mind.

It’s not often that you see a strong heroine with her own identity (as opposed to Batgirl, Supergirl, etc.). They exist, but they’re vastly in the minority. Especially in solo titles.

As for Chance’s world… parts of it may be familiar, but Chance herself often points out how it avoids various familiar tropes.

Not to mention the new class structure, where Supers (even the good guys) see themselves as literally above everyone else. Again, not entirely unique (what is, really?), but not something you often see in an ongoing (I hope) series.

I’d like to hear your thoughts on things like that. On what the series is. On what brought you to write it. On how you see things. On what brought you from urban fantasy novels to superhero comic books.

Other than that… more story is always good. Glimpses into her world. Or the lives of the people around her.

And a poster or two is not uncommon.

And whatever else seems fun and/or interesting. *shrug*

  3. I just finished Urban Shaman (loved it) and yesterday picked up Thunderbird Falls. I wish I read the books earlier so I would have known to go after Take a Chance when it first hit the shelves. :)

My local comic shop doesn’t have issue #1 so I tried the Dabel Brothers Store link above but it looks like their store is down. Will I be able to follow along with the story if I skip #1 for now and start with #2?

  4. Actually, yes, as the first issue is really a stand-alone origin story, and the story arc is issues 2-5. Everybody’s introduced in #1, but it should all be clear enough if you start with #2. :) Thanks for checking, and I’m glad you liked URBAN SHAMAN! :)
