One last chance at WALKING DEAD!

There’s one last chance to win an early copy of WALKING DEAD over at Book Love Affair! Go forth, participate!

I’m curious as to how many readers here picked up the Walker Papers only recently, when the first three were re-released in mass market paperback. Let me know, please!

  1. I had the Walker Papers on my wish list for several months before I purchased “Urban Shman.” I finished it in two days and promtly ordered the others. I have Walking Dead pre-ordered and can’t hardly wait for it to be released! I’ve read some half-hearted efforts lately and “Shaman” was such a relief. Thanks so much for the wonderful stories. I’m urging them on all my friends.

  2. I saw the after the mass paperback release and was hooked after the first few pages. lol, when I almost finished it I promptly went to my nearest Boarders to find the rest. I’m in the process of tantilizing my imagination with your other series…hahaa :)

    • I’m really pleased people are finding the books through the mass market re-releases. That makes me very happy! :) And I’m glad you’re enjoying them. :)

  3. I’ve read your books from the beginning. Didn’t know you had a new one coming out till just now … guess I should check your site more often, huh?

  4. I’m gonna say that I discovered you and your books about 2-3 months ago, but didn’t actually start reading any until about 2 weeks ago. Since, then I have completed the Negotiator Trilogy, as well as the first three books in the Walker Papers series. I absolutely loved the Negotiator Trilogy. Margrit and Alban were such great characters!
Right now, I’m in the process of reading The Queens Bastard. So, far I’m enjoying it, but I will admit that I prefer the feel of your Urban Fantasy Novels more.
I absolutely cannot wait until Walking Dead comes out, I’m so excited.

Finally, I want say that from the books I have read of yours so far, you are a kick a** author and I’m glad I discovered your books.

    Hugs,
    Amy :-)

    • Yeah, TQB is an entirely different kind of book than the urban fantasy. I knew there wouldn’t be 100% crossover appeal, but I appreciate you giving it a try!

  5. I discovered the Negotiator Trilogy in February of this year, loved them enough to immediately look you up on line and see what else you had written. I absolutely fell in love with the Walker Papers series and am anxiously awaiting the newest. Joanne Walker is a refreshing character.

I too am glad I discovered your books and gladly suggest them to all my friends. Thanks for the good reads! :)

  6. I picked up Urban Shaman a couple of months ago, then proceeded to read all the rest along with the Negotiator triology and TQB and Pretender’s Crown. Love them all and was REALLY excited when I visited your website for the first time and there was a post about Walking Dead coming out soon. I felt like I timed reading the books perfectly haha. I’m so glad I decided to pick up your books in the library one day. I now own 8 of your books. I love to read them over and over. :)

  7. I am so glad that you’ve written a new Walking Papers novel. I love, love, love this series and have read it from the very beginning in trade paperback (LUNA). I own them all and can not wait for this new novel to come out! Just from reading the excerpt I know it is going to be as fabulous as its predecessors! Please, please, please don’t stop writing any time soon!

  8. I found Urban Shaman at Borders about a month ago. Read it, loved it, had to go get the others. Looking forward to 4-6, but of course the wait to read is slowly killing me.

  9. For me actually Amazon recently recommended the Negotiator series based on other books I’ve read and I went to your site after I was done reading it to see what else you had written. I started with Urban Shaman and loved it so much I immediately bought the rest. I can’t wait for Walking Dead to come out. I know some authors have a ‘love/hate’ with the ebooks but I love being able to carry 390 books around with me all the time and being able to have the book within seconds after it comes out is incredible (we live in a remote area). “Walking Dead” is on my ‘Wish List’

    • I’m all for ebooks! No love/hate here, I’m all for people being able to read the books in whatever format is most convenient to them!

  10. I picked up Urban Shaman a few years ago. and have read everything since. So not a short time reader. Since then have started the Queen’s basterd series, and the Heart of Stone. Love your work.

  11. I actually bought the Queen’s Bastard then I came across Urban Shaman in the library, I read it and love it and wasn’t awared there were actually sequels out till a month a go. I’m waiting to find the Negotiator trilogy in a smaller print since I don’t like to buy the trade paperbacks.

  12. Just finished Urban Shaman. Enjoyed it’s pace and loved the story line. Just started Thunderbird Falls and so far it is a wonderful read. Thanks

  13. I found your books well over 2 years ago. I like the bigger trade paperback. Actually I’d prefer hardbacks. Looking forward to new stuff in all your series.

  14. Picked Urban Shaman up in town the other day, after telling myself at the door “anything you want”. How delightful to have found it so quickly thereafter in the store. Considering how well it worked, I’ll have to be careful what I ask for next…oh I have it! “Please keep writing!”

While I regret not finding your work earlier, it’s nice once in a while to find someone with a lot of books yet for me to read. But I read fast, so don’t stop anytime soon!

    • How splendid that URBAN SHAMAN fell into the “anything you want” category! And fear not, I have every intention of continuing to write–and it’s *really* nice to hear someone coming in now who’s pleased to find a lot of books on the shelves. That was really one of my goals, and part of why I’ve worked very hard over the past five years. Yay!

  15. I picked them up recently when I was perusing the bookstore for something to read and the word “Shaman” caught my eye. And then I was like, “hmmm, urban magic, Coyote….” and I’m already a fan of the Dresden files so I figured it sounded like something I’d like. I picked up all three books and read them straight through. :)

  16. Hello,my name is Ethan Mcinturff and i’m 11 years old.My nanna loves your books,so i ask her if i can read them and she said yes. They are AWESOME i’ve had Urban Shaman just one day and i’m in the middle of it.My nanna and i both love your books,my nanna is on Coyote Dreams. My nanna reads the books before me to she if they are okay.

    • would like to know if anyone else near my age has read these books and to know if ms murphey thinks its nice that her books are read by all ages

      • Ethan, my self-proclaimed “third biggest fan” started reading my Walker Papers novels when he was 12, and I’ve been told several times that people have seen my books shelved in the young adult section of bookstores, so I’d say you’re not my only pre-teen/teenage reader.

And Ms. Murphy thinks it’s *awesome* she has readers of all ages. *beams*

        • Ms Murphey, thank you so much for replying to my grandsons Ethan Mcinturffs comment i have been checking dailey for him he will be so thrilled to read this thank you again for taking the time to make his day many blessings in all you do Tammy Anderson or Ethans nana

  17. Just picked up a copy of _Urban_Shaman_, Monday afternoon. Just finished reading _Underground_ by Kat Richardson, and _Skinwalker_ by Faith Hunter, so I’m just getting started on this. I used to read books as soon as they came out in HC, but that got expensive, and I am now retired and living on a fixed income, so now I restrain my self until they are at least “bargain books” if not mmpb.

Still have _Crossover_ by Joel Shepherd, in reserve. _Urban_Shaman_ has rather more humor than I expected. I’m glad to see a genre such as Urban Fantasy/Mystery/PI Noir/Police Procedural becoming popular, if that approximates the proper category. I’ve seen the odd occasional book (D’Shai/Hour of the Octopus by Joel Rosenberg comes to mind), and enjoyed it, but never hoped to have an entire genre based around similar subjects.

    Things are looking up!

    • Tinker, give Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files a try, too–they’re perfect urban fantasy/P.I. noir blends. :) Hope you’re enjoying the books!

  18. Just picked up the first 3 books in the Walker papers in the past year- Loved them! I am so glad we get to visit more with Joanne!

  19. I read the quuen bastard ‘ books a couple of months ago and last week I saw all three of the walkers paper at my local borders so i brought them. In the middle of reading Thunderbird Falls I went and brought walking dead and I began reading it last night

  20. Ms Murphy – I finally received my copy of Walking Dead on Thursday and had occasion to be thankful that I have a private office! I’m afraid my work was neglected for the rest of the afternoon. I stayed up late to finish, and I’m almost finished with my second read through. I love the book, as always you tell a great story, but I really, really enjoyed Joanne’s growth. Summer of 2010 for the next book is too far away.

Thank you again for a couple of late nights, it is well worth it.

    Marcia

  21. I was reading Winter Moon and really enjoyed your story. When I discovered it was part of a series I looked up the other titles. I brought all four. I am half way through the Walking Dead. I will be so sorry that I will have to wait so many months for number five. It was the characters that hooked me. I never would have picked up a book about a shaman. But once I met the characters I was in love. I especially like Jo when she interacts with children. Even if Jo doesn’t believe in herself children do and so do your readers. Thank you for hours of enjoyment.

  22. I picked up a book with short stories and although Mercedes Lackey and Tanith Lee have been very popular for many years, their stories dragged and lacked spark or personality. I was so frustrated with buying such a lame book of stories. However, story 3 was by C. E. Murphy and introduced me to Joanne Walker aka Siobhan Walkingstick. I went out and bought (did not go to the library and borrow) the first two volumes of the Walker series and just read from front to end and front to end and could not put them down until I was done. Then the worst part was the withdrawal. The only things that saved my sanity was going to work both days. Tomorrow I will be up and at the bookstore as early as it opens to pick up the next two books in the series. Sigh, and then the withdrawal will begin again.

lol What an amazing woman is this character. I love her humour and how she keeps checking in with herself. Having come from a family with ADHD and being an ‘older woman” (hit 68 next week), who is aware that her roots are in Ireland (north and south from both sides), I enjoy the struggles of Siobhan to come to terms with her gifts and her frailities as happens with most of us. As I work in a shelter with homeless women, I am often counselling those who struggle with their issues in live, and Siobhan is an entertaining way to reflect on our struggles as human beings to be the best we can be – and how we are often our own worst judges.

I look forward to the continuing saga of Siobhan Walking stick. I also look forward to her dealing with accepting her roots and her birth name and moving on from being just “joanne walker” . How often this reflects the immigrant experience, the serious desire to ‘fit ‘ in, especially with those of us who were born ‘different.

Thanks for offering such a complex and interesting shero.

    AEB.
