Website Registration

All right, I’ve started getting spam registering as users again, so I’m shutting down the “anyone can register” option again. However, I’ll post a page with a big link on it soon about how to register at this site: basically, email me with your username and email address and I’ll set you up an account so you can respond here. I’m sorry, and I’ll try to come up with a more elegant solution in the long run, but for the moment that’s how it’ll have to be.

You can email me at cemurphyauthor AT gmail DOT net. :)

mailing list

You know I have a mailing list, right? It’s announcements-only and comes out usually with the wild frequency of once a month. Sometimes less. I think twice in a month once, several years ago. Anyway, it summarizes what, if anything, is going on–crowdfunding projects, convention attendance, books released, etc–in a tidy encapsulated email.

I have 700 readers on LJ (and no idea how many hit mizkit.com or cemurphy.net). I have 1200 followers on Twitter and a thousand on Facebook (and a couple hundred on G+). I’m sure there’s plenty of crossover amongst those followers, but the point is, there are 300 people on the mailing list.

Clearly something is wrong here. So I am running a drive to get people onto the mailing list. It really is the best, most coherent place to find out what’s up if you’re at all interested in my career. And in order to encourage people, I’m going to send books to one in every ten (chosen at random) people who sign up for the list by the end of July.

In the unlikely event I should reach the heady number of a thousand list subscribers, I will do something nifty like write an Old Races story just for list subscribers.

(yes, yes, you whiny butts who are among the first 300, I will probably do some kind of thing JUST FOR YOU too.)

You can sign up for the mailing list here. :)

Upcoming Storytelling Hour!

I’m going to run three Storytelling Hours during the second weekend of June!

I’ll either do two on Saturday the 11th and one on Sunday the 12th, or one on Saturday and two on Sunday. Either way, there will be a session at 1pm Eastern (6pm Irish time, 10am Pacific) on both the Saturday and the Sunday. On one of those days there will also be a 4pm Eastern session. You tell me whether the second session should be on Saturday or Sunday.

I’ll be creating a chat room for which I’ll post a link, probably 15 minutes before the Storytelling Hour begins. Then I’m going to spend an hour each time telling Gryphon Beach stories. I’ll tell at least one. I may tell two or three, depending on time. They’ll be off the cuff, and if you come in late you’ll miss the beginning. There will be no recaps.

I will not be posting the stories after they’re told, so the Storytelling Hours will be your only chance to hear them. I *will* be saving them for some sort of future publication, so eventually you’ll probably get a chance to buy them.

I hope some people show up to hear the stories! :)

IMMORTAL BELOVED

A friend of mine finally helped me join the 21st century and has made a PDF and an .epub of IMMORTAL BELOVED, the Highlander novel I wrote back in 1998 when…somebody, I forget who, was publishing them. I even submitted it, but they’d just cancelled the line, so my Methos story has been relegated to the status of fan fiction. Now it’s easier-to-read fan fiction! :)

IMMORTAL BELOVED: An archaeologist’s claim to have found Atlantis brings five thousand years of memories and missed chances back to Methos’ doorstep. PDF version || EPub version || HTML version

Enjoy. :)

ARCs!

WAYFINDER I just got a box of WAYFINDER advanced reader copies! I’ve never in my whole career gotten ARCs before! It’s very exciting!

In celebration, I will give one away! Leave a comment here at cemurphy.net (that’ll be a test, I guess, of whether the registration is working–if you have a problem, email me at cemurphyauthor AT gmail DOT com) and I’ll draw a winner early next week!

(eta: Registration should be working now: try going here, where the fine print offers an opportunity to register…)

sorry about this…

…but I’ve just enabled registration for people who want to comment on cemurphy.net. I’m getting hammered by spam, and can’t see any other way to stop it. In theory if you try to post it’ll inform you you need to log in, and offer you an option beneath the username area to create an account.

It’s a pain, and I’m sorry, but the spam is driving me bonkers and my only other option seems to be turning off comments entirely. I don’t want to have to do that, so I’m going to try this first. Bear with me, ok? Thanks…

Comments comment

I’m getting hammered by spam, so I’ve had to close all comment-ability on posts older than 14 days. Always feel free to comment something on a newer post, if you’re trying to respond to an older one that’s already closed down!

TRUTHSEEKER excerpt!

There’s something screwy with the font sizes on my websites. I’m vaguely assuming this has to do with the need to upgrade to WP 3.0, which I haven’t done yet. I am, though, aware of the problem and I’ll try to get it fixed this week.

In the meantime, have an excerpt from TRUTHSEEKER, out in September 2010!

“–once upon a time, not so long ago, it was driven by a little old lady I know personally. She drove it to the store weekly, that’s it, so its four thousand miles are gentle ones, ladies. It’s just two years old and has all the extras. You won’t find a better deal than this here or anywhere else. Now, I know the sticker price is eighteen five and you’re not looking to spend quite that much.” The salesman leaned out from beneath his umbrella to get a better look at the V of Kelly Richards’ T-shirt, and smiled. “It’s cutting my own throat, but I think I can knock it down to seventeen flat. It’s a bargain, ladies, a real bargain.”

“Lara?” Kelly folded her arms beneath her breasts.

For a moment Lara found herself studying her friend’s cleavage, though less avidly than the salesman had. Kelly had a lifetime’s experience in using her assets to distract and command, whereas Lara’s own figure had been described as more of a pirate’s treasure: a sunken chest. Clinical curiosity made her wonder what it would be like to take control of a situation just by inhaling deeply.

“Earth to Lara, hello?” Kelly snapped her fingers under Lara’s nose. “Are you in there?”

“Of course I am.” Lara turned her attention back to the yellow Mazda Miata the salesman hawked. Or, rather, to the patter he’d shared, the quick flow of words meant to distract and impress in the same way Kelly’s T-shirt was. Lara thought Kelly had taken the upper hand in dedication to distraction, though. It was too cold, with too much promise of serious rain, to be out without a coat, and the salesman’s gaze kept wandering to Kelly’s chest instead of the vehicle lot. “And he’s lying.”

Breaking radio silence

Just a quick note to assure passers-by that I’m still here, but without significant publishing news to report at the moment. :)

Currently halfway through writing SPIRIT DANCES, Book 6 of the Walker Papers, with great hopes of finishing it by mid-April. Beyond that, not much is going on.

Cheers!
