ZOMG!

Ok, this will be an actual test to see how many people are coming by reading this blog. :)

I just got two boxes full of HOUSE OF CARDS in the mail! It’s beautiful and I’m very very excited and happy, and so I am going to give away one! count ‘em! one! copy of HOUSE OF CARDS to someone who comments here and tells me why it is you, yes you, should receive a shiny new author-signed copy of the second book in the Negotiator Trilogy!

I will send the book on Friday the 1st, so people have a week to respond!

I’m here! I’m here! *waves frantically*

I should get a copy because it was my birthday on Wednesday and I JUST finished Heart of Stone and I NEED MORE!!! It’s like a drug!!

I have also turned about 4 people on the Walker Paper novels and after having borrowed Urband Shaman from me went out and bought their very own copies of the rest of the series! I would like to do the same with Heart of Stone. :)

Also, I am impossibly awesome and adorable. Ha ha! =D

  2. Jennifer Says:

    Oh dude~ I lost :(

I was going to say… I would love to have a copy of “House of Cards.” I just recently “found” you, C. E. Murphy, and I am so glad I did! “Heart of Stone” is amazingly good. So exciting to have found another author to add to my collection of “must read everything- must OWN all the books.” LOL

I’m actually not a huge fan of the “creature” fiction, but yours stands out from the rest.

    Write on~

    Jennifer

  3. Margaret Says:

It’s my lucky day. I do come, but only when I have blogging time or am on a mission. I was so busy reading the Walker Papers that I forgot to pick up your bombshells and when I went for them, they’re all gone.

So yes, I’d love to be in the drawing for your new series (but you gotta know I’m getting it anyway :D), but any tips on getting your backlist? Will they be put out as ebooks to keep them around?

    Cheers,
    Margaret

  4. Donna Says:

*jumps up and down on chair* OOOOH ME ME ME!!!

*cough* sorry :p I only say me since I am planning on buying a copy of Heart of Stone tomorrow, and I know that I won’t be able to get the next one for about a YEAR! *sigh* sometimes I hate living over here.

Anyway, I would love love LOVE a copy :) I randomly found the Walker Papers and need something to tide me over till the next one comes out. :D

Also, Cat may be awesome and adorable, but I am cute and fluffy! :D

  5. Crystal Says:

    Let me try.

I should get one because I always need something to read. Seriously, books are like my crack. If I’m not reading one, I quickly deteriorate into a blibbering mess. And since NASCAR season is starting up next month and my hubby loves him some NASCAR and I cannot stand it, I am going to need something to keep me from carping during races about how we could be doing something much more productive with out time. So you see, you’d be helping me save me my marriage.

  6. Jennifer Says:

I forgot to add~ I’m not at all awesome or adorable.

I’m troll short, with hairy arms that practically drag on the floor, and I have atrocious halitosis. My eczema is so bad that I have to carry a mini wet-dry vac around with me (wet-dry vac helps for the drool problem too- what can I say, this huge tongue really makes it hard for me to close my mouth all the way) to vacuum up the flakes I leave behind, well, except for the ones that get stuck in my snarly coarse locks.

Compound all of that with the flatulence problem and oozing sores (don’t worry, the doctor says they’re no contagious)… I really don’t get out very much!

So you see- you must send the book to me :)

  7. curiosity Says:

I’ve got both Heart of Stone and House of Cards set to come in March some time, along with two other books (Rob Thurman’s ‘Madhouse’ and Cherie Priest’s ‘Not Flesh Nor Feathers’, the last of which I’ve been trying to get my paws on for a freakin’ year!) so I don’t really -need- an autographed copy of HOC. Though the idea of the contest tickles me in my inner-reading-junkie zones.

I just wanted to comment to say that I hope you’ll update your blog regularly, as I check in fairly frequently to see what’s new. I appreciate all your hard work.

    Have a good day!

  8. Brian Says:

Why I should get the book:

    1) Im a great fan of the SciFi fantasy genre
    2) I havent yet read any of your books, so giving me volume two will undoubtedly necessitate that I read volume 1 first- so you sell another book
    3) If I like the books, Ill buy more and more and more
    4) You will have gained a new customer, or patron, as it were

  9. Brian Says:

Hey, My cat looks so much like yours its almost scary

  10. Renee Says:

LOVED Heart of Stone. Alban is such an original character.
I drop by here daily to see what’s new with the books and then jump over to the blog. Hope you’ll be updating the News on this site more often!

Listened to Heart of Stone thru an Audible download, and would jump up and down for joy at getting to READ House of Cards.

  11. valerie Says:

You should pick me because I would give it to my daughter (after reading it myself, of course). She is a major fan of yours and if she were to write (instead of draw and paint), her voice would sound so much like yours it is uncanny. In fact, it’s a reason I come to your blog and listen to you, lol. It’s like pretending my daughter writes! (Check her blog at http://hannaslifeiscool.blogspot.com if you don’t believe me!)

  12. Eliza Says:

I am not very charming or chatty. I would very much like a copy of House of Cards. Simply, I am a fan. A reader.

  13. Starfire Says:

Heh - you don’t need to send me a free copy - I just wanted to comment, let you know I thought this was a very cool idea, and that I’m reading your blog and loving your writing!

Seriously - I’m lucky enough to have a reasonably good job where I can afford to support my book habit, which, not coincidentally, means I can afford to support the writers who create the wonderful books to support my book habit, and my friend who runs the fantasy-and-romance genre bookshop that provides me with the books to fuel my book habit.

So I’m totally intending to buy House of Cards through her once it’s released in paperback down here in NZ. And meanwhile, I’m pretty sure there are other commenters who aren’t quite as lucky, so they deserve it more than me.

*grins* - and no, I’m not going for reverse psychology there. I just love your books and think this is a cool idea.

ooh, doggies!! I must admit this is my first blog? I confess I wasn’t weened on computers like the younger generation..does that age me or what? I really enjoy your books, have everyone of the oversize paperbacks. I would love a copy of book #2 in the negotiator trilogy… bummer, only three. I have to admit I am a avid reader,of almost anything… so I will fortify my will and wallet and continue on if not selected. Thanks for all the hard work, making yourself sit down and compose everyday can’t be easy.

  15. Teresa Says:

oh, pick me, pick me! I’ve read all of the Walker Papers, and called and bugged my local Barnes and Noble so much about ordering books 2 and three that they went ahead and carried ‘Heart of Stone’ without me having to nag them. Does that count as a reason?

Anyway, I loved Heart of Stone and can’t wait until I get to read House of Cards, whenever that is.

    Teresa

  16. Sparrow Says:

Waves, I found Heart of Stone in the book store. Omg it is as awesome as the Shaman book. I would so love to have one of your books autographed.

Thank you so very much for the books, they are engaging and entertaining.

    Thank you for writing them.

  17. Katherine Says:

Can we enter a comment both here and over on your lj? I have both on my google reader feed. :D

I’ll reiterate my comment from there, that as an aspiring author I read very few books that I get so sucked into the story that I’m able to look past technique, Heart of Stone did that for me.

Also you’re just damn good and I want the sequel since I’m waiting for the Walker Papers from amazon, which I will undoubtedly finish is under three days once they arrive. That leaves me really wanting House of Cards and The Queen’s Bastard.

  18. gemmmz Says:

Me me me me *takes off prosthetic leg and throws it across the room* As you may have noticed I’m hopelessly disabled blah blah sob story blah. But I’m desperately trying to save up to go to America in July with one of my carers. If I win a book then it means I can save a few bucks for my big trip…

  19. gemmmz Says:

Nah let’s face facts, saving for a once in a lifetime trip won’t stop me from buying your books anyways.

  20. shelly Says:

I have to admit I just recently found your books, and have loved every one of them!!! Been telling my friends that read this genre how great you are and that they need to read your Urban Shaman books and Heart of Stone. I have to say that I completely fell in love with Alban. Love his character and cant wait to read more of him. If you send me a copy I will read it and trust me I will be recommending it to as many people as I know. Keep up the good work. Thank you also for all the wonderful hours of escape.

  21. jjmcgaffey Says:

I just recently discovered you - lots of recommendations, which I’d ignored because of the amount of bad urban fantasy I’d been dealing with. Then I read Winter Moon (because Lackey was in it) and Banshee Cries hooked me quite thoroughly. I’ve now read Urban Shaman and have the next two from the library - I’ll get them for myself soon but couldn’t wait that long to read them. I hadn’t seen Heart of Stone or any of your other books; now I’ve read the teaser for House of Cards and have to go hunt up Heart and wait for House…love to get it from you, but I’ll get it regardless! Oh yeah, and look up the Cate Dermody books, and - is the comic Grace O’Malley or just someone in the same vein? Worth checking either way…
    Thanks. Your stories are great.

  22. Christopher+Young Says:

We should just get the book because we miss you and your husband!!! Don’t know if you still remember us from Alaska, but we just wanted to know if you and he were doing well out there…if you want to keep in touch, just email us whenever..
hope to hear from you soon!!

  23. James L Proudfit Says:

    Please please grovel grovel

  24. Larissa Says:

It is I, yes *I* who should receive the shiny and brand-new HOUSE OF CARDS!!!! “Why?” you may ask… because not only am I shiny and brand-new myself (I got a GLORIOUSLY lovely haircut and lost 15 lbs!!!), I am addict!!! And thou, thou art the enabler! Gimme my fix (T_T) or surely I shall perish…

P.S. I love you and all of your books <3 (even if I don’t get a copy I still shall forever love you)

P.P.S. Barnes and Noble eats all my moneys… my poor, tattered moneys earned with my blood, sweat and tears. And THUS do I have no money left for aikido classes…

    THE END

  25. Rich Stahnke Says:

Um…because I stumbled in here almost by accident and you may pick up a new reader?

  26. Ley Says:

Because I just finished reading Urban Shaman and HAD to check out your site and saw this and about died. (What a run-on…) I can’t wait to read the rest of the Walker Papers! Friday we’re going to the library, I just have to make it to friday, friday….
I have Heart of Stone patiently waiting upstairs for me… I’m enjoying the anticipation.

  27. Gina Humble Says:

hi, my name is Gina. I have a question. I just finished Heart of Stone. What was in the tea that Chelsea gave Margrit? Page 183: “she rubbed her fingers around the inside of the cup, smearing a thin film from the tea between her fingertips against her tongue.” And did it have an effect on Margrit? thanks, Cant wait to read House of Cards.

  28. Lisa Says:

Pick me! Pick me! Please, please, please, pick me!
Ok, so I may not be as awesome as some others who will remain nameless, but I do love your books so, so very much. I visit to your web site on a regular bases for any miniscule scrap or tidbit you just might throw our way. Whenever a new teaser comes up I jump on it like Paris on the next poor sap to buy her a drink.
I could try to bribe you by saying that if you give the book to me I promise to buy, read, and warship every piece you publish from here on in…But really I’ll be doing that regardless.
    So once again.
Pick me! Pick me! Please, please, please, pick me!!!

  29. Sixpixies Says:

Wow!!! The responses are piling in quickly. I hope you still have one left for me.

I love all of your books! I have gotten all my college age daughters and their friends, plus my son-in-law hooked on Jo and now on Grit. :)

I hope that qualifies me for one of your books!!!

  30. FloraDwyn Says:

Just finished Heart of Stone, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I came by your website looking for the release dates, and ‘bonus’ got to read the excerpt from ‘House of Cards.’ I’m definitely looking forward to the story!
    Happy Monday!

  31. Julie B Says:

I would love to get an advance copy so that I can post an early review on Amazon. :) also so that I can find out what happens next as I am almost done with the first book and i hate when I have long lag times between books.

    Thanks for running the contest!

    Take care
    Julie B

  32. Jess Says:

OMG!! I have been a fan since Urban shaman just came out. I would very much love to get the advance copy because life hasn’t been to go to me latly and i just want to believe that something good could happen to me. Even it is as small as winning a book, so be it. But if there others who are more deserving of it then give it to them. Sometimes you just have to smile and let the person next to reach their goals. I love the new series so keep on keeping on!

    faithfull reader

  33. Jennifer H Says:

Please send me one because I want to know what happens!
I am patient for somethings but not for books.

  34. LysRian Says:

I’m here and would looovvee a copy!

  35. Ley Says:

I finished Heart of Stone yesterday and wow… Now I reeaaallly can’t wait. If I don’t win this (which knowing my luck, I prolly won’t), the library had better get it in quick.

  36. Micheline Says:

I would greatly appreciate a copy of your new book. I love the Walker series and was a bit disgruntled that you chose to write a new series instead of another Walker book. But Alban is sexy & mysterious & interesting and I look forward to reading more of him.

  37. Erika Says:

Oddly enough I was just to go to Amazon to see when House of Cards would be available (I really did love Heart of Stone) but I decided to Google you instead and this site came up. Bless. I love your work and I always look forward to seeing a book with your name on it. I even listen to the audiobooks.

  38. Michelle Says:

Since groveling didn’t seem to work too well on your blog I thought I’d try again here. I love all your books and try to promote them to my friends, but some people just don’t listen to me. ;) I’d really like the new book because urban fantasy has quickly become my favorite genre and I love all the vampires, weres, witches, demons, and now gargoyles that inhabit the world. And I really need to know what Alban and Margrit do next!

Oh, and I like comics too, and will add Take a Chance to my box at the comic store soonest!

  39. Bobbie Says:

Loved Heart of Stone and the Walker Papers and would very much like to know what happens next.
Also, a co-worker & I will be doing a presentation “Chick Lit with Fangs and Fur” on Valentines Day and being able to wave the first copy around would be fun. Thanks

  40. Sarai Says:

I am not sure I deserve a copy of your book but I would love to have one signed by you. I love your writing and have suggested it to everyone I know. I think your characters are fantastic. Please keep up the great work and I can’t wait until The Queen’s Bastard comes out! Thanks again!

  41. Angie Says:

I have never owned a signed copy of a book. I think books are communal and so any copy I have will be shared and shared until the cover is ripped, the pages are all dog-eared, and I have to go buy another copy if I want to read it again. Therefore, a signed copy would probably be wasted on me.
I do love your books and will buy House of Cards when it comes out. Just, please keep writing, my book addiction needs you. :-)

    Angie.

  42. Grace Says:

OOh! I have a great reason - I received “Heart of Stone” from Amazon early and finished it in like 1.5 days, so I’ve been eagerly waiting for “House of Cards” for longer than most other people! And do you know how HARD it is to wait for a book in a series you can’t get enough of?????

Plus the excerpt is so kick-a** and I’m practically dying to know what happens next! You also already know (from my previous comment in a previous thread) of my long-standing interest in gargoyles and my love for your books (particularly because of the strength of your writing). So yeah, I would love to get my hands on “House of Cards” early, and how special would it be for it to be from the author’s own hands? Incredibly cool. Thanks for reading this all the way through! I know it’s quite long.

  43. gemmmz Says:

Ok, so I thought of a v good reason why maybe I could win. I have photos and stuff too if you were interested Catie, even if it’s just to see me walking which I haven’t done in 9 years.
I am in a whelchair, horrible disease yada yada yada. But I don’t let that stop me from anything. Going overseas for a once in a lifetime trip if I can get the dosh saved up. Went skydiving a couple years ago (the chair did NOT come down with me). My physiotherapist and I organised some leg braces and I’m learning to walk again, only in parallel bars so never by myself again. But hey it’s hard work and I’m not being put off of living a great life because my body’s giving out on me.

So yeah it’s not a great reason but maybe I can get a reward for my hard work? And learning to trust these leg braces is VERY hard work.

PLUS I have all of your books, even the Strongbox ones. I took em with me to reread in hospital last year, then gave em to my social worker there!

  44. Jennifer Jee Says:

Naturally, I’d love to get my hands on a copy - who doesn’t love to get read a new book in a series early? The worst part about starting a new series is waiting for each installment to be released!

Hmm. What makes me deserving? Well, I’ve read all of your books, but that doesn’t make me special, just smart. I visit your site regularly to keep abreast of your latest news - but that really just proves I’m nosey and impatient! I’d also pass your book on to others so they can discover you also…but that just makes me a good friend. Ok, so I don’t think there’s anything that says I DESERVE the book. But I WANT it!

If I’m not given the book, I’ll probably have to wait for awhile to buy it *sigh* - my voracious reading habits just cannot afford trade paperbacks!

One of these days I’ll figure out how to sign up to review ARCs…I like writing, so a review would be a small price to pay=)

On a side note, I’m really glad to see you’re updating your site! I love it when I can get fresh news when I visit!

  45. Neko Says:

I had a Heart Transplant in July 2000. since then i lose myself in books, because let’s face it life in the real worlk just blows at times. If you want to give me a copy cool if not i am going to get one anyway because i love your work. Keep turning them out please.

  46. Anne Says:

I recently discovered your books. Currently reading Urban Shaman and I love it so much I’ve already purchased Thunderbird Falls and Coyote Dreams. If you send me a copy of House of Cards, I will definitely purchase a copy of Heart of Stone. However, even if I am not the lucky winner, I will purchase it anyway.
