March 2008 newsletter/update!

Lots of things going in in my corner of the universe. First off, books!

HOUSE OF CARDS is out! Quick! Go forth! Buy it! Get me onto a bestseller list! *hopeful eyes* :)

I’ve posted a teaser for THE QUEEN’S BASTARD, first in my new series starting in May.

I’ve been invited to participate in a Subterranean Press anthology with three other authors (Kate Elliott, Robin Hobb and Kelley Armstrong. Wow, am I in good company!). My plan at the moment is to write a Janx and Daisani short story, tentatively titled “From Russia, With Love”. That’s going to be so much fun. :)

Second, comics!

We’ve moved the TAKE A CHANCE launch date to July, to give ourselves more time to get our legs under us and to give the comic the dazzling start we all think it deserves.

Third, appearances!

I’m the guest of honor at P-Con in Dublin, Ireland, March 29-30 2008. If anybody has a chance to make it over, please do!

I’ve been invited to be a workshop teacher at a writer’s conference in South Carolina this October. I’ll post more about that when I have more details, but it looks like a really exciting, intense weekend, and I’m looking forward to it.

I’ve arranged a bonanza signing at the Forbidden Planet in London, tentatively scheduled for 20 September. The entire Negotiator trilogy will be out by then, as well as THE QUEEN’S BASTARD, and of course all the Walker Papers that are currently available. There should also be three issues of Chance out at that point, so, yeah: a bonanza signing event. More as I know it on that, too.

Fourth, stuff totally not related to writing! :)

I’m running a poll on my livejournal page to tally votes for a photography exhibition project, and invite you all to go take a look and render an opinion. I think you have to actually be an LJ member to vote, but if you’re not, you can always email me at cemurphyauthor@gmail.com with your two cents. :)

Due to the response in the poll already, I’m looking at selling 5×7″ prints of each set of 6 for $50, and am likely to start with the graveyard set. If anybody’d like to pre-order a packet, or sees a specific image they might want at a larger size, again, please do email me. :)

And I think that’s about all for now. :)

In the church group, I did not like the 2nd one and I LOVE the sixth one. The icy white rim around the cross is really evocative and with the fog, very thought provoking.

In the flowers, I really like the first picture and loved the color in the sixth picture.

I like the first, third, and sixth pictures of the churches.

I would have to say, that the water grouping was my least favorite.

If my comment is in the wrong place, feel free to move it.

    HOUSE OF CARDS ROCKS!

I practically ran to Borders when told it was in and then read non-stop. With Alban’s opening POV, everything else fell away and I felt as though I’d entered a hushed, sacred place. Your characters are a delight, so complicated and unexpected. I was afraid, after Heart of Stone, which was one of my favorite books in 2007, to expect as much again. So instead, you gave us more. Now I need to re-read House of Cards because some of your lines, seriously, should be quoted, and often.

    Thank you so much.

Wow. My, that certainly makes me want to go finish up the revisions for book three, Darlynne! Thank you! I’m really glad it lived up to your expectations! *wriggles* :)

Wow, I’m so glad I visited this site today! I didn’t know House of Cards was out. It’s on my shopping list for tomorrow. Can’t wait to get started! Off to email my friends about this.

I’m so glad you did too! Thanks! :)

Loved House of Cards. Finished it in 4 days. Would have been done sooner but I had to go to work…stupid work! But I took it with me and snuck in a little reading time there, too. Anxiously awaiting Hands of Flame!!! I have recommended the books to my friends on live journal and Myspace! Home you make the bestseller list!

I love the new website look - guess that shows the last time I was here. :) ….and am also a big fan of your books, favorites hanging on Jo’s books (she resonates). Looking forward to the Bastard’s Daughter!

Can I ask you a question about your comic book? How did you go about writing that? I’m assuming that the graphics are done separately (maybe bad assumption there). But how long is a comic book in word count (relatively speaking), did you do that sort of in play or script format or do you write in bubbles over stick figures (actually kidding there - but I don’t have a clue about the process)? Just curious - sounds way exciting. Best Wishes.

  8. Kate Says:

Oops, meant the Queen’s Bastard not the Bastard’s Daughter (perhaps that’s a later book).

  9. ce_murphy Says:

Oh, it’s okay, Kate, I think I only updated the look of the site about…a month ago? Maybe not even quite that. :) So you’re not doing so badly. :)

I’ve been meaning to do a post about the writing and creation of a comic book. I’ll … not do it in the next week or so, I’m sure, because I’m trying to finish a book, but if I don’t do it in the next month or so, remind me! :)

-Catie, who knew you meant QUEEN’S BASTARD. :)
