August 28, 2007

Greetings!

A small rush of things here before the long holiday weekend: first, I’ve received covers for the first two books of the Negotiator Trilogy. Chris McGrath (of the new Dresden Files covers fame!) is doing the covers for this trilogy, and I think they’re OMG gorgeous. Totally different from the Walker Papers, but that’s as it should be, as it’s a brand-spanking-new
urban fantasy series. So check out href="http://www.cemurphy.net/gallery/covers/heart_of_stone_lg">HEART OF
STONE and href="http://www.cemurphy.net/gallery/covers/house_of_cards">HOUSE OF
CARDS at my covers gallery and let me know what you think!

Second, that time is approaching–HEART OF STONE will be out in November 2007, so I’ve finally posted a href="http://www.cemurphy.net/teasers/hos.php">teaser for it. Enjoy!

July 14, 2007

Over the last couple of months I have gotten *lots* of emails saying, “I’ve visited your website and don’t see anything saying there will be more Walker Papers! Don’t tell me the series is ending!” I could’ve sworn I had something about this here, but let me just make it clear:

Don’t worry. The series isn’t ending. :) The next Walker Papers book (tentatively titled CAULDRON BORNE) will be out sometime in 2009.

However, between now and then, I will have a new urban fantasy series, The Negotiator Trilogy, coming out. Book one, HEART OF STONE, is out in November 2007; book two, HOUSE OF CARDS, is out in March 2008, and book 3 (currently titled HANDS OF CHANGE) is out in September 2008.

But wait! There’s more! I also have *another* new series starting. This series, tentatively titled The Inheritors’ Cycle, consists of THE QUEEN’S BASTARD (June 2008) and THE PRETENDER’S CROWN (January 2009).

So, that’s right, that’s _five books_ you get from me between COYOTE DREAMS and the next Walker Papers book. I’m hoping all those new books will salve the pain of not getting a new Walker Papers for two years… :)

May 3, 2007

Okay, I *know* I sent a newsletter out in January or February, but apparently I utterly failed to update this website. I’ve got to get better about that, don’t I? It never fails to astound me how much time goes by between me managing to do this. :)

COYOTE DREAMS is officially out! Also, if you haven’t already discovered it, I’ve got the first
chapter posted here.

I’m also working on a new novel called CENTENARIAN, which I’m posting live as I write it. The first chapter is currently available here, and you can follow the irregular updates at my blog or at the specifically-tagged blog entries here. At some point I’ll probably
turn that into a PDF shareware package, in case people enjoy it enough to pay for it, but right now it’s a hundred percent free.

And that, for the moment, is it. Short update this time! :)

December 5, 2006

I honestly have no idea how it got to be December so quickly. Wow.

Hello, and happy holidays to everyone!

December’s an exciting month here in my little world. It’s the end of The Year From Heck, wherein I’ve turned in five manuscripts over the last 11 months. One of them, COYOTE DREAMS, will be out in May and I just got the cover for it a couple days ago:

SOOO PRETTY! :)

THE PHOENIX LAW, 3rd book in the Strongbox Chronicles by Cate Dermody (and another one of those 5 manuscripts that got turned in this year!), is on the shelves! These books have a very short shelf life, just one month, so hurry out and get your copy now! If you need a teaser to convince you, well, gosh-a-mighty, there’s one right here for your perusal!

I’ve been working on a Sekrit Project for the last ten months, and have finally gotten it in the mail as a submission. It’s a comic book called “Take A Chance”, and if you’d like to take a gander at the first five pages, they’re available here.

This is a work of love, and I very much hope to be able to report that it’s been picked up and will be distributed sometime next year. :) My artist, Ardian Syaf, is simply *amazing*, and I cannot sing his praises highly enough!

If you’re still looking for the perfect Christmas gift, may I recommend checking out this auction on eBay? They’re mostly hand-made or personalized items from people all over the world, donated, by and large, by LiveJournal users:

There’s a lot of story behind this auction, all of which can be learned here and here (start from the bottom up), but the long and the short of it is that all proceeds from this auction are going to a family who lives near sff author Jay Lake. The family is a grandmother raising her two teenage granddaughters, having lost the rest of their family to cancer over the course of five years, and she’s doing this largely on her social security income. Over the past several months, people from literally all over the world have come together to try to help them out, and now that it’s Christmas, there’s some extra effort going into it.

A print of one of my own KitSnaps photographs will be up for auction–the auction page, as I type this, only has four items on it, but there are, I think, close to thirty total, and the rest will be listed over the next 24 hours. There’s some genuinely *cool* stuff in there.

On that same note, I am personally matching gift funds up to $250 for The Neighbor Family. If you’re at all inclined to give a charity gift and want to maximize it, please make a donation through Paypal (if possible–that’s easiest!) to neighbor@jlake.com, with “neighbor” in the memo line, and then let me know that you’ve donated and, if you want me to match it, how much. We’re at about $110 right now. I would really love to be able to present them with $500 for Christmas and the new year. Saving the world is a hard
business, but we can make an awful lot of difference to a few people.

Okay, that’s the end of my exhorting you for your hard-earned cash. :)

Last but not least, I’ve started up a MySpace page here. I’m not quite sure what to do with it, but by gosh, it’s there, so I’m telling you all! :)

Coming up for air…

Attended Ireland’s science fiction convention, Octocon, this past weekend and had an absolutely fantastic time. A writeup of … not so much events, really, as “what I could remember Monday evening”, is here, and photos are here. A very fine time was had by all, and I look forward to next year’s event.

Looking forward, I’m going to World Fantasy Con in Austin, Texas in early November, so if you’re in the area and keen to meet me, drop me an email (catie@cemurphy.net) and we’ll see if we can’t meet up! Later in November (the 25th), I’ll also be going to Dublin’s Comic Con, which I’m looking forward to. I’m attending both of these cons as an attendee, not a guest of any sort with any kind of panel or signing or reading events, so if anybody wants to catch up with me, pre-arranging is probably a very good idea.

In working news, I’m nearing the end of the Great Pile Of Manuscripts that has been the year of 2006. My first Del Rey title, THE QUEEN’S BASTARD, is two-thirds done, and it’s the last book I’m turning in this year (thank heavens). I have, for some silly reason, signed up for NaNoWriMo in November, so if you’re participating in that and want to make me a writing buddy, I’m ce_murphy over there.

Sekrit Project I’m working on is nearing completion. I’ll post about that in early November, and you can all wish it luck. :)

Unlikely as it may seem, we have a second update within a matter of weeks!

All kinds of exciting things going on. Best news! THUNDERBIRD FALLS hit #3 on the Locus magazine’s trade paperback bestseller list for August. I’m very, very excited about that!

Worst news! Harlequin has cancelled the Bombshell line, so THE PHOENIX LAW, due out in December, will be the last Strongbox Chronicle for the foreseeable future.

Oh, and also, MeCon was a lot of fun. Photos here. :)

More soon, when I write a newsletter update.

*looks around, a little whirly-eyed*

Once more time has gotten away from me. I claim enormous amounts of writing as my excuse; I’ve revised two novels and written most of a third since last I graced these hallowed halls. And right now, my brain is so wiped out that that’s nearly all I’ve got to say. Except this: I’ll be in Belfast for MeCon this weekend (August 4-6), so if you happen to be up there, drop by and say hi!

May 25, 2006

An inverview with BookHelpWeb is now up! I had a huge amount of fun with this one, so I hope you all enjoy it. :)

News flash! News flash! Author gets her act together and updates her webpage! Read all about it right here, on cemurphy.net!

As a number of you who’ve stopped by and emailed me know, URBAN SHAMAN sold out sometime in January or February of this year; around February it stopped being readily available unless you happened to walk into one of the megachain bookstores that still had it in stock. Well, good news: the status of URBAN SHAMAN was updated in Simon & Schuster’s ordering system on April 25th. Everything in my publisher’s immediate control is updated and rolling along, so if you’re still having trouble getting ahold of the book, please do nag your local booksellers incessantly.

Just in case you missed it, let me say that again: URBAN SHAMAN sold out! This constitutes a pretty major victory in my mind, as it’s my first novel and it was released in trade paperback (as opposed to pocket or mass market paperback, which is the smaller size book that people tend to think of when they hear “paperback book”). I’m *completely* thrilled. :)

In the deadly silence that’s been going on on this front page, I’ve been writing books. I turned in HEART OF STONE, first book in the Old Races trilogy, in January, after doing the revisions requested by Luna–that book, originally written in 2003, I believe, is now *completely* different…except for the story, which is still the same. :)

I’ve also turned in book three of the Walker Papers, COYOTE DREAMS, which I imagine will be published around this time next year; book two, THUNDERBIRD FALLS, is on the shelves now! Quick! Go forth! Purchase it! Enjoy! And, not to forget the Dermody titles, I’ve turned in book three of the Strongbox Chronicles, THE PHOENIX LAW, which will be out in December. Book two, THE FIREBIRD DECEPTION, is out in June!

Currently working on HOUSE OF CARDS, the second of the Old Races trilogy, and am mostly keeping my head down while I write. In my copious free time (!) I’ve been getting back into photography; some of my work is featured on kitsnaps.com, which I’m trying to keep updated daily. And, of course, if you’re spending months at a time wondering if I’m still alive, let me direct you toward my daily journal over at mizkit.com. Oh, and I had a fun interview with Out of the Blogosphere recently, so check that out too. :)

ButcherCon has been cancelled. Instead I’ll be going to World Fantasy Con in Austin this fall, assuming I get all my books written before then. :)

And that, I think, is enough for the moment!

February 10, 2006

Good news! Harlequin has purchased the next trilogy in the Strongbox Chronicles, in a four-book deal that also includes the third book in the current Cate Dermody trilogy, THE PHOENIX LAW!

In other cool news, both URBAN SHAMAN and my Walker Papers novella, “Banshee Cries”, have been nominated for the Paranormal Excellence Award in Romantic Literature. WINTER MOON, the anthology “Banshee Cries” is featured in, is also up for best anthology overall. More information is available at the P.E.A.R.L. website.

URBAN SHAMAN was also nominated for the Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice for best modern fantasy. I’m told if I haven’t heard from RT by now, I didn’t win, but I’m genuinely delighted to have been nominated. More details on that are here.

January 19, 2006

This has been a somewhat longer break from updating than I’d intended. The last few months have been rather busy, and I’ve lacked internet access, so updating’s been harder than I like for this site. (I obviously need to change it back to the journal format, so I don’t need to access the files on the server to update.)

First off, in personal news, I’ve moved from Alaska to Ireland! This is a move that we’ve been talking about on and off for many years, ever since my family got back in contact with our Irish relatives, and now we’ve done it! So far, I like it very much. For more frequent updates on the Irish Adventures, keep an eye on my web journal, mizkit.com.

Second, professionally, I’m incredibly pleased to announce that attending the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers’ conference in September 2005 has paid off in a big way: Betsy Mitchell at Del Rey Books, who I met at the conference, has made an offer on my epic science fantasy novel THE QUEEN’S BASTARD, and one sequel. They’ll be published in Fall 2007 and 2008 under the C.E. Murphy byline. I’m extremely excited about this!

Third, also professionally, I’ll be attending Phoenix Con here in Dublin over the weekend of March 11-12, will be at I-Con in New York March 24-26, and ButcherCon in Kansas City on October 20-22. I’ll keep you updated on any other conferences and conventions as I know them!

There’s more in the works–teasers and covers to be shown soon–and I’ll do my best to stay more regularly updated here. :)
